Construction work on two schools headed to the old Montgomery Mall is moving ahead at full speed.
You may have noticed lots of construction equipment at the now One Center. School officials say while there is plenty of exterior work going on, most of the construction is taking place on the inside.
The Montgomery Preparatory Academy for Career Technologies is expected to be ready for classes this fall.
On the other side of One Center, crews are tearing up asphalt to lay underground work for new ball fields for the Lovelace Academic Magnet Program.
However, that school won’t be open until the fall of 2017.
Officials say the biggest challenge has been turning what was once a retail space into a sectioned off structure to house hundreds of students. That includes cutting out spaces for windows so outside light can come.
There has also been a lot of fire-proofing and setting up design structures to allow for future additions if needed.
