Troy Softball Looking to Bounce Back Against Florida A&M
TROY, Ala (troytrojans.com) – The Troy softball team hosts Florida A&M at the Troy Softball Complex on Wednesday with the first pitch set for 5 p.m.
The Trojans (17-7) dropped the series against Georgia State last weekend in the 2016 Sun Belt Conference opener. Troy won the first game but fell in the final two.
Kate Benton leads the way for the Trojans with a .446 batting average. Prior to Georgia State, she had hits in the last 15 games and scored 23 times. She leads the team in stolen bases with 19.
Erica Davis is hot on Benton’s heels posting a .323 batting average and 20 hits. She has launched five long balls over the wall tying her for second on the team and has crossed the plate 22 times. Hannah Day is still the Trojans’ power hitter with a team high 28 RBIs, seven home runs and a .629 slugging percentage.
Ashley Rainey leads the Troy pitching staff with a 10-6 record and 31 strikeouts in 75 innings of work. Rainey has a 2.71 ERA and opponents are batting .259 against her.
Florida A&M (8-16) is lead by senior Jessica Nathan and sophomore Toni Anderson. They combine for 43 hits, 23 RBIs and 17 runs.
The Trojans swept the Rattlers last season with the first game in Troy and the last in Tallahassee. Troy won a close game, 2-0, when the two teams squared off last April. Troy struck first by scoring its first run in the third inning and pushing another run across in the fifth. Florida A&M couldn’t cross the dish despite having four hits on the night. The Trojans lead the all-time series against the Rattlers 45-13.
Following the mid-week game, Troy travels to Boone, N.C. on Friday to face Appalachian State. Due to inclement weather, the games have been pushed to Friday and Saturday rather than Saturday and Sunday. Game times are still to be announced so to stay updated on information regarding the schedule change, go to TroyTrojans.com.
