Tuskegee softball preps for SIAC crossover

JASPER, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) —  After not playing for nine days due to rain cancelling their last series with Miles College, the Tuskegee University softball team returns to action tomorrow in the SIAC Crossover against Benedict College and Paine College. The Lady Golden Tigers will play six games in three days, returning to conference action for the first time in two weeks.

Tuskegee (2-20, 2-1 SIAC) will face Benedict (9-10, 4-2 SIAC) at 12 noon tomorrow, while they will face Paine (1-5, 1-5 SIAC) at 2 pm Thursday.

The Lady Golden Tigers played the same schedule they are playing this season, two years ago in Jasper and went 5-1 in the Crossover en route to winning their first Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship. The Lady Golden Tigers will face Albany State (5-14, 3-2 SIAC) and Clark Atlanta (5-11, 3-3 SIAC) on Friday; while they will face Claflin (10-11, 3-1 SIAC) and Fort Valley State (2-14, 2-4 SIAC) to close out the SIAC Crossover on Saturday.

Tuskegee trails Miles and Spring Hill in the standings as both teams are 6-0 in the SIAC West Division, and are tied in percentage points with Stillman for third place in the division.

The Lady Golden Tigers are led by freshman Sharde Thomas – a SIAC Player of the Week award winner this season – who is hitting at a .432 clip with 19 hits this season. She has recorded four extra base hits (three doubles and a triple), four runs batted in and four stolen bases. Fellow freshman Kaylin Finch is hitting .302 this season with a team-leading two homeruns and 13 runs batted in. Roneshia Rudolph is hitting .281 for the Lady Golden Tigers, while Jamaica Williams has a pair of homeruns and 10 runs batted in.

Senior Karisa Foye (1-3) leads the team with a 4.15 earned run average, while allowing 27 hits in 27 innings pitched. She has recorded eight strikeouts in five appearances this season. Meanwhile, Finch has made six starts during her freshman campaign for Tuskegee, allowing 35 earned runs in 31 innings pitched.
