Troy Softball Travels to Appalachian State for Second Weekend of Conference Play
BOONE, N.C. (troytrojans.com) – The Troy softball team hits the road to travel to Boone, N.C., for a three-game series against Appalachian State at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium with a doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. CT and the series finale on Saturday at 12 p.m.
Troy (18-7, 1-2 Sun Belt) is coming off a big 11-2 win over Florida A&M at the Troy Softball Complex on Wednesday night.
The Trojans have three players batting over .300. Senior Kate Benton is electric at the plate posting a .468 batting average, 36 hits and 26 runs. Benton is also second in the Sun Belt with 21 stolen bases. Hannah Day is batting .325 with 29 RBIs, 26 hits and leads the team with seven home runs.
Erica Davis is close behind Benton and Day with 22 hits, 21 RBIs and 23 runs scored. She posts a .344 batting average, has lifted five home runs out of the park and is second on the team with four doubles.
Ashley Rainey (10-6) leads the way for the Trojans pitching staff with a 2.71 ERA. The Tuscaloosa native has give up 36 runs on 76 hits in 75 innings of work. Opponents are batting just .259 against her.
Appalachian State (6-20, 1-2 Sun Belt) is coming off a split in a doubleheader against Campbell on Wednesday night at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium. The Mountaineers won the first game, 9-0, and dropped the second game 4-3.
Natalie Orcutt and Jenny Dodd lead the Mountaineers offensively. Orcutt is batting .348 with 23 hits and Dodd has 26 RBIs and 21 hits on the season.
The Trojans lead the all-time series with Appalachian State, 7-2. Troy swept the series against the Mountaineers last March when they traveled to the Troy Softball Complex. This is the first time Troy will travel to Boone, N.C. to face Appalachian State.
