Montgomery at Moderate Risk for Zika Mosquitos

Mobile listed as having a High Risk.

A CDC related health group lists Montgomery as having a moderate risk this summer for the mosquito that carries the Zika virus. The city of Mobile is listed as having a high risk.
The study was reported in the “Plos Currents: Outbreaks” journal. The study includes a map identifying cities  at risk based on climate, poverty and closeness to the ocean.
Only three Alabama residents have been diagnosed as having the virus, and they are believed to have contracted it in other countries where the virus is prevalent. Poverty is included as a factor because there may be less sanitation in areas of high poverty, and that contributes to an increase in the mosquito population.
