Troy Women’s Golf shatters school record; Trojans lead Samford Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala (troytrojans.com)  – The Troy women’s golf team fired a 12-under 276 in the second round of the Samford Intercollegiate at the Greystone Golf and Country Club on Monday. The round shattered the Troy single-round record by eight shots and the Troy par-72 round record by 12 shots; it was the first under par round in school history.

Troy will carry a 17-shot lead over second-place Charleston Southern into Tuesday’s final round. South Alabama is 27 strokes back in third place, while West Georgia is in fourth place and Samford is in fifth place.

Last season, Troy shot a 284 in the second round of the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate to set the overall single-round record on the par-71 Forest Hills Golf Club. Two weeks later, the Trojans fired a 288 at the Eagles Landing Country Club during the John Kirk/Lady Panther Intercollegiate to set the par-72 single-round school record.

Bianca Lohbauer, Fátima Fernández Cano and Gabi Oubre’ all carded rounds in the 60s during Troy’s record run and all rank among the top four individuals heading into the final round. Cano shot a 4-under 68 in both rounds and finished the day in first place with a Troy 36-hole record 136 total card.

Lohbauer is tied for second place after carding a 5-under 67 in the second round and a 4-over 76 in the opening round. The 67 marked her first career round under par and the best round by a Troy golfer this year.

Oubre’ matched Cano’s 68 in the second round and is in sole possession of fourth place after carding a 7-over 79 in the opening round. Becca Horner is tied for 13th place heading into Tuesday’s final round after carding rounds of 78 and 74, while Lindsey Harrison is tied for 26th place thanks rounds of 84 and 73.

Four Trojans are playing the tournament as individuals led by Antonia Poate, who is tied with Harrison for 26th place after carding an 83 in the opening round and a career-best 2-over 74 in the second round. Bria Jansen shot 14-over on Monday and is tied for 29th place, while Kalyn Hudson is tied for 38th following rounds of 82 and 79 and Abby Parks is tied for 53rd after rounds of 87 and 83.

Troy, Charleston Southern and South Alabama will comprise the final pairing for Tuesday’s final round and the group will tee off beginning at 9:20 a.m. on the front nine.
