Tuskegee tennis splits matches with Point

VALLEY, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) —  In their final tune-up match before the SIAC Roundup in Mobile, the Tuskegee University tennis teams split with Point University Monday afternoon with the women claiming a 6-0 victory. The men dropped their final match before the Roundup, losing 5-0 to Point.

On the women’s side, Tuskegee (7-3, 6-1 SIAC) claimed the victory after winning two points in doubles play. After winning a point by default, the number one doubles team of Reicia North and Monica Thomas picked up an 8-4 victory to claim the first two points of the match.

They claimed the match by winning all three singles matches that were played. Navilla Paul defeated Taylor Navarro of Point 6-1, 6-4; while Kayla Triche picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Point’s Becky Rivera at number two singles. The match was decided when Taylor Wilson defeated Point’s Becky Rivera 7-5, 3-6, 10-3 at number three singles.

On the men’s side, Tuskegee (3-8, 3-5 SIAC) faced a 3-0 deficit before stepping foot on the court after defaulting at number five and six singles. They also defaulted at number three doubles.

Point claimed the match with victories at number one doubles over Michael Graham and Reginald Richardson 8-5, and then over Jalen Law and Brandon Sewell 8-6.

Tuskegee returns to action Thursday at the SIAC Roundup hosted by Spring Hill College, with the roundup running through Saturday afternoon for both teams. For a complete listing of the roundup, visit each team’s schedule.
