Prattville native and former Alabama football player Kevin Turner has died.

This news comes from a Facebook post by Kevin’s father, Raymond Turner, that was later shared by The Kevin Turner Foundation Facebook page:

“Myra and I lost a great son today. He will be missed so much,” his father, Raymond Turner, posted on Facebook. “Thanks to everyone so very much for your support and prayers during this journey. He was ready to go to Heaven, excited he said, Love y’all and God Bless.”

Kevin Turner made headlines as a star football player.
First, he got his start at Prattville High School, helping to lead the team to a state championship in 1984.
The school honored the football champs during pregame festivities in September of 2014 and retired Turner’s jersey then.

“His spirit was always the same. He always remained the same no matter what it is that we did,” said Former teammate Sam Goodson.

Turner went on to a career in the NFL playing for both the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles.

He was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) — also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease — in 2010.

He founded the Kevin Turner Foundation to help educate others on the dangers of concussions in sports and ALS. He also wanted to help find a cure for the disease.

Kevin Turner was 46 years old. He leaves behind a wife and three children.

Turner’s funeral will be at 3p.m. Easter Sunday in his hometown of Prattville, Alabama. Visitation is from 1p.m. to 3p.m.
The services will be at Prattville Memorial Chapel and Memory Gardens located at 841 Fairview Avenue, Prattville, AL 36066.
