Troy Women’s Golf 7th after 2nd round of Henssler Financial Intercollegiate
KENNESAW, Georgia (troytrojans.com) – The Troy women’s golf team is in seventh place following Monday’s opening two rounds of the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate at the Pinetree Country Club. The Trojans are just seven shots back of a top-four finish in a field that includes nine teams in the top 100.
Fátima Fernández Cano fired rounds of 73 and 75 in the opening two rounds and finds herself in fifth place and just five shots behind Texas Tech’s Gabby Barker, the nation’s fourth-ranked player, for the individual lead.
Cano entered the week with the ninth best score vs. par in the country (-0.12). She carded a trio of birdies in her opening round and added one more in the second round.
Teams battled a tough course on Monday as it played to an average round of 78.09. No. 29 Texas Tech will carry a 19-shot lead over No. 63 Illinois and No. 34 Augusta into Tuesday’s final round. No. 60 Chattanooga is 25 shots back in fourth place, while No. 53 Middle Tennessee is in fifth place and No. 87 South Florida is three shots up on the 99th-ranked Trojans in sixth place.
The remainder of the Trojan lineup is separated by just three strokes led by Gabi Oubre’ in a tie for 37th place. Bianca Lohbauer is tied for 41st, while Lindsey Harrison and Becca Horner are tied for 49th place.
Oubre’ picked up a pair of birdies in the opening round to shoot a 7-over 79, but responded with a 5-over 77 in the second round with one birdie to finish the day with a 156. Lohbauer finished her day with a 158 after three birdies and rounds of 78 and 80.
It was a tale of two rounds for Harrison who shot a 3-over 75 in the first round, but struggled to an 84 the second time through the course. It was the opposite for Horner, as she shot an 81 in her opening round, but responded for a 6-over 78 in round two. Playing as an individual, Antonia Poate is tied for 62nd place after rounds of 80 and 85.
Troy will be paired with Kennesaw State and Old Dominion for Tuesday’s final round, which will be a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m.
