MPD Officer Resigns after Arrested for Leaving Crash Scene
A Montgomery police officer has resigned after being arrested for fleeing a crash scene.
Montgomery Department of Public Safety Spokeswoman Martha Earnhardt said in a statement that 22-year-old G.T. Farris was involved in a two-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning. Police asked the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to investigate after they determined one of the vehicles involved was registered to an off-duty officer.
Earnhardt says Farris left the crash scene and abandoned the Ford Escape he had been riding in.
Authorities say Farris and the driver of the other vehicle both suffered minor injuries.
Officials say bond is set at $15,000 on the felony charge. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
Earnhardt says officials had started the termination process before Farris resigned. He graduated from the police academy in 2014.
