MPD Makes Arrest in Shooting Death of Montgomery Teen


The Montgomery Police Department has made an arrest in Monday, March 28, 2016, shooting death of 16-year-old Kourtney Richardson of Montgomery.

MPD detectives charged Floyd Burnett, 19, of Montgomery, with one count of murder.

Burnett turned himself in to MPD detectives on Thursday, March 31. He was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he was being held under a $150,000 bond.

MPD and Fire Medics responded to the 1900 block of Gibbs Drive at about 5 p.m. after receiving a report that a subject had been shot. At the scene, they discovered a gunshot victim, Richardson, who was transported to a local hospital with a report of non-life-threatening injuries. Richardson’s injuries proved to be fatal, and he later was pronounced dead.

MPD initially opened a death investigation before developing evidence indicating homicide. MPD’s investigation indicates the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation. Further investigation identified Burnett as a suspect.
