Diamond Trojans host Samford on Trivia Tuesday
TROY, Ala (troytrojans.com) – The Troy baseball team hosts Samford at Riddle-Pace Field for Trivia Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Troy (16-13) is coming off a weekend series win over New Orleans. The Trojans blasted seven home runs in the series and scored 24 runs over the three games.
T.J. Binder hit two home runs, one triple and one double against New Orleans. He also drove in five RBIs and went 6-for-9 at the plate. He propelled himself to a .365 batting average, which is tops on the team.
Trevor Davis has a team-high 18 RBIs and a .321 average, while Joey Denison has a team-high seven doubles and a .292 average. Both have two home runs this year, with Denison’s coming in the series against New Orleans.
Evan Hebert will get the start on the mound for the Trojans. His last appearance came on Sunday March 26 against Little Rock. The left-hander has a 5.90 ERA with nine strikeouts in 29 innings pitched. He has a 2-2 record on the season.
Samford (16-12) has won four of its last five games, including taking two out of three from Mercer. The offensive led Bulldogs are hitting .305 as a team with 54 doubles and 35 home runs.
The Bulldogs bring in the NCAA’s leading home run hitter in Heath Quinn, who has 14 home runs in 28 games this season. Quinn is also first in the nation in home runs per game averaging one home run every two games (.50). The junior has driven in 43 runs, which is tied for the third most in the nation.
Mikhail Cazenave will toe the rubber for the Bulldogs. He has a 12.71 ERA with three appearances and two starts. Cazenave has struck out four, walked four and allowed 13 hits in 5.2 innings.
The two teams met on March 8 and Samford defeated Troy 20-6. However, the Trojans lead the series 39-21 and lead the series at Riddle-Pace 24-4.
