Vehicle Crashes into House Causing Gas Leak

IMG_6960At approximately 3:49 PM on Monday, April 11, Opp Police Department officers and Opp Fire Department fire units responded to the 400 block of Forth Street to the report of a traffic crash.

Upon arrival, officers found a Ford Explorer had departed the roadway and crashed into a private residence.

The operator and only occupant of the Ford Explorer sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital emergency room by private vehicle. No one else sustained injuries as a result of the crash.

Upon the officer’s arrival on the scene, they detected the heavy odor of natural gas that was the result of a gas line being ruptured during the crash. Officers established a perimeter around the crash scene and Opp Fire Department personnel assisted with the perimeter and prepared to control any fire hazard.

Southeast Alabama Gas personnel responded to the scene and sealed the gas leak.
