Biscuits “walk” to 3rd straight win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (biscuitsbaseball.com) – The Biscuits (3-3) got back to .500 thanks to a hard-fought victory on Wednesday morning against the Mississippi Braves (1-6) winning in walk-off fashion, 3-2.

Jake Faria (0-1) got the start and was fantastic tossing seven innings of one-run ball, striking out seven while allowing just two hits. The right-hander’s lone blemish was serving up an RBI-double to Braves first baseman Jacob Schrader in the fourth.

Juniel Querecuto got things going offensively for the Biscuits against Chris Ellis (1-0) with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second. Schrader’s double tied the game for the M-Braves, before Kean Wong’s RBI-single plated Mike Marjama in the bottom half of the sixth.

The score remained 2-1 until the eighth inning when right-hander Jeff Ames came on to relieve Faria and allowed a two-out solo home run over the left field wall to Jordy Lara that tied the game at two.

In the bottom of the ninth, Granden Goetzman reached first on a one-out infield single before advancing to third on another single by Querecuto. An intentional pass was then issued to Tommy Coyle, which brought Braxton Lee to the plate. The center fielder didn’t swing the bat once against reliever Mauricio Cabrera, and was walked on four straight pitches, as the Biscuits literally walked off with the win for their third straight victory.

The Biscuits will look to make it four in a row on Thursday night when they send Taylor Guerrieri (0-0) to the mound against Sean Newcomb (0-0) at 7:05 PM on Mardi Gras Night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Other promotions at Riverwalk during the five-game home stand include Rays Night with Chris Archer Bobblehead Giveaway pres. by Alfa Insurance on Friday, and Girl Scout Camporee with a MASSIVE MAX Fireworks Show of the Month on Saturday.
