Griffin’s second SEC Freshman of the Week honors
AUBURN, Ala. (auburntigers.com) – Auburn tennis player Alannah Griffin has been selected SEC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the SEC announced on Wednesday.
“We continue to be extremely proud of the heart and determination that Alannah shows every day in matches and in practice,” said Auburn head coach Lauren Spencer. “She loves to compete for her team and she will fight until her last breath for her teammates. She is our never say die player and continues to impress us with her fight.”
After trailing 5-2 in the third set against Hadley Berg on Friday, the freshman from Solihull, England, battled back to clinch the match against No. 10 South Carolina, winning 3-6, 7-6, 7-5.
Griffin is 24-10 (7-1 SEC) on the season in singles, tying her for ninth all-time for single season victories in program history. With 45 combined wins, which is second on the team, she is also tied for 14th all-time in single season combined victories.
Griffin and Auburn will wrap up the regular season on the road this weekend at No. 6 Vanderbilt and No. 20 Kentucky. The SEC Tournament begins on April 20 in Baton Rouge, La.
