Masters tied for 2nd; Troy slips to 4th overall

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla (troytrojans.com) – Calum Masters fired a 1-under 70 to lead Troy in Monday’s second round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship at the Raven Golf Course. The Trojan freshman is tied for second place, while Troy slipped into fourth place as a team.

Troy entered the day tied for second, but shot even par on the day to fall right on the cutline for match play. The top four teams following Tuesday’s final round of stroke play will advance to match play on Wednesday. The Trojans were the only team on the day to not count a score above a 1-over 72.

Masters made the turn at 2-under par and stayed that way until an eventful final three holes. He bogeyed the par-3 No. 16 before a birdie on No. 17 and a bogey on No. 18 to close the day under par of the sixth time in his last 12 rounds.

Clayton Vannoy also fired a 1-under 70 to maintain his standing in seventh place. Vannoy made the turn at 3-under and followed with a birdie on No. 10 to run to 4-under; however, a double-bogey and bogey on No. 15 and No. 16 pushed him back to 1-under.

Luke Moser moved into a tie for 28th after carding a 1-over 72 with three birdies on the day, while Cam Norman climbed into a tie for 35th after four birdies and a round of 1-over 72. Jared Bettcher ended the day with a birdie on No. 17 to close out his day in 48th place after a 4-over 75.

Georgia State shot 5-under on the day and will carry a six-shot lead over Arkansas State into Tuesday’s final round. Texas State is three shots up on Troy in third place, while UT Arlington is three shots back of Troy in fifth.

Troy will be in the first group out in the final round as the Trojans will take the course with UT Arlington and ULM beginning at 7:30 a.m.
