Warhawks open SSAC softball tourney with 4-0 win over Mobile

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (aumathletics.com) —- Senior Taylor Powell tossed her 13th shutout of the season to keep the No. 2 Auburn Montgomery softball team in the winner’s bracket after the first day of play at the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament, being play at Fain Park in Montgomery.

• With the win, the Warhawks improved to 45-5 on the season.

• Mobile fell to 27-20 on the season.


• Powell scattered five hits and walked three in the victory. She struck out six to improve to 27-3.

• Sarah Angulo was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk and two RBIs.

• Rose Schmidt had two hits, stole a base, scored a run and drove in a run.

• Jennifer Jenkins walked twice and picked up a RBI. She also swiped a base.

• Taylor Clinkenbeard was on base three times, walking twice and connecting on a single, while also stealing a base.

• Kaylen Kosbab had two hits for the Rams.



• AUM took the lead for good in the second inning, when Jenkins walked with the bases loaded. Hayden Henderson, Schmidt and Katie Brinkman each singled to fill the bases with Warhawks.

• The Warhawks added three runs in the third inning, using three hits to put the game out of reach. Schmidt drove in the first run of the frame with an infield single, scoring Powell, before Angulo plated Schmidt and Syndey Dishman with a two-run double.



• Mobile left 11 runners on base, while the Warhawks stranded seven runners.

• AUM committed the only two errors of the game.



• The Warhawks will return to action Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., when they take on No. 3 seed Martin Methodist.
