Gillaspie powers Biscuits over Barons 2-1

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AlabamaNews.Net)  —  Alabama’s longtime Southern League rivalry between Birmingham and Montgomery was renewed Wednesday night as the Biscuits bested the Barons 2-1 in the opener of a five game series at Riverwalk Stadium.

Montgomery 1st baseman Casey Gillaspie accounted for both Biscuits runs, sending a solo shot over the right field wall in the second inning and then delivering a RBI single in the seventh to bring home Willy Adames.

Parker Markel picked up his second win of the season, relieving Biscuits’ starting pitcher Chih-Wei Hu in the 7th inning.

Brad Schrieber nailed down his fifth save of the season.

Game two of the five game series gets under way Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium with first pitch at 7:05.
