Faulkner is top seed in NAIA Baseball Championships Opening Round
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (faulknereagles.com) – Third-ranked Faulkner is the top seed in the NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round Bracket it is hosting next week at Harrison Field.
Patrick McCarthy’s Eagles will welcome No. 2 seed and 16th-ranked Vanguard (Calif.), the regular season runner-up in the Golden State Athletic Conference; No. 3 seed and 21st-ranked Texas Wesleyan, the runner-up in the Sooner Athletic Conference; No. 4 seed Central Methodist (Mo.), which won the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament; and No 5 seed Texas A&M-Texarkana, which received an at-large bid from the Association of Independent Institutions.
“We have really good teams from across the country, and that should make for a fun week of baseball,” said McCarthy, whose team won both the Southern States Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships. “Post-season baseball is always the same. Whichever team plays the best will win, and each of the teams here is capable of doing just that.”
The double-elimination tournament begins Tuesday and continues through Thursday, with a potential IF NECESSARY game scheduled for Friday. Tuesday’s games have Central Methodist and Texas A&M Texarkana battling at 11 a.m., Texas Wesleyan and Vanguard squaring off at 3 p.m., and Faulkner facing the winning of the day’s first game at 7 p.m.
The winner of the Faulkner Bracket joins eight other Opening Round champions and host Lewis-Clark State in the Avista-NAIA World Series, scheduled for May 27-June 3 in Lewiston, Idaho.
Daily tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students age 13 through college with proper identification, with children age 12-and-under getting in free. Tournament passes are available for $25 for adults and $12 for students.
