Troy Elementary Students Awarded by Achilles Kids Program

Several students at Troy Elementary school were recognized for their efforts in physical education.

The ceremony was by Achilles Kids. It’s a free program that encourages children with special needs. Troy University’s Physical Education for Exceptional Children class, assisted in implementing the program. Students participating were encouraged to go the distance of 26.2 miles with wheelchairs, or by running or walking. Coordinators say there are several reasons why this program is important.

“To be more active-physically active and second to collaborate and be ale to recognize these kids for an accomplishment to really be able to encourage, motivate, work together, and achieve a goal within,” says Candy Howard-Shaughnessy of Troy University.

Students were awarded a medal, a certificate, a t-shirt, and new athletic shoes for their efforts.
