Biscuits shoot down Barons 7-3
The Biscuits (22-17) sent Chris Kirsch (3-1) to the mound for his seventh start of the season in game one of the five-game series, and while the left-hander got into trouble early, serving up a three-run homer to Nicky Delmonico in the first, he would eventually settle down and toss one of his better games of the season.
Down 3-0 out of the gate, the Biscuits responded in the top of the second with a double by Willy Adames and a single by Casey Gillaspie. That brought Mike Marjama to the plate, and the Montgomery catcher didn’t miss, launching the first pitch he saw from Birmingham (18-23) starter Tyler Danish (3-4) over the left field wall for his first-ever Double-A home run.
The Marjama blast tied the game at three, and an inning later Jake Bauers would come through with an RBI-single into right field that plated Johnny Field to give the Biscuits a 4-3 advantage. Kirsch would wind up throwing a quality start, allowing just the three runs in six innings of work with four strikeouts.
The Biscuits would pad their lead on a sac fly and an RBI-double from Adames, as well as an error by Barons shortstop Eddy Alvarez, as Buddy Borden was magnificent out of the bullpen, earning his second save of the season with three shutout innings.
The Biscuits will try to make it two in a row on Friday when Chih-Wei Hu (2-0) takes on Jordan Guerrero (0-1) at 7:05 PM.
