Adames, Biscuits Win Fourth Straight in 3-1 victory over Suns

JACKSONVILLE, Fla ( – Willy Adames’ two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning broke a 1-1 tie and handed the Biscuits their fourth straight victory on Saturday night against the Jacksonville Suns, 3-1.

Ryne Stanek (1-6) got the start for the Biscuits, and the right-hander was nearly unhittable, tossing six innings and allowing just one run on a sacrifice fly while tallying a season-high ten strikeouts in a no decision. Patrick Johnson (2-1) on the other side was outstanding as well, his lone blemish allowing an RBI-single to Jake Bauers in the third in another no decision.

The game would remain knotted at one until the ninth when Casey Gillaspie stepped to the plate and crushed a one-out double over the head of center fielder Jeremias Pineda into the deepest part of the ballpark. Gillaspie had singled in his previous at-bat to extend his on-base streak to both a season and team-high 19 games.

That brought up Adames, and the Biscuits shortstop got a hold of a Tyler Bremer offering and cleared the fence in left field for his seventh long-ball of the year. Five of Adames’ seven home runs have now come against the Jacksonville Suns. The two-run blast was also the shortstop’s fourth game-winning hit of the 2016 campaign.

The Suns would load the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but Kyle Bird got Francisco Arcia to strike out as the young left-hander recorded his second save of the year, and sealed the win to put the Biscuits a game above .500.

The Biscuits will now head home and open up a five-game series with the Biloxi Shuckers beginning Sunday at Riverwalk Stadium at 5:35 PM.
