Lanier tabs Marvin Cunningham as Poets’ new head football coach

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AlabamaNews.Net) — The Lanier High School Poets have their third head football coach of 2016, with Principal Antonio Williams telling AlabamaNewsNet Wednesday evening that previous interim head coach Marvin Cunningham will now take the job on a permanent basis.

Cunningham has served as the Poets defensive coordinator for the past 3 seasons and was tabbed for the interim post during the departure of C.J. Harris and hiring of former Alabama State University Head Coach Reggie Barlow.

Barlow, a Poets alumnus, only held the position a few weeks before ultimately deciding to take the head coaching job at Virginia State University.

Harris has since accepted a position at crosstown rival Carver High School.
