Biscuits devour Shuckers 17-2 on Jimmy Buffett Night

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (biscuitsbaseball.com) – A day after losing their sixth series of the year, the Biscuits bats exploded for a season-high 20 hits in a 17-2 route of the Biloxi Shuckers on Jimmy Buffett Night on Thursday at Riverwalk Stadium.

Biscuits manager Brady Williams made some tweaks to Thursday night’s lineup, batting Casey Gillaspie second for the first time, Willy Adames third for the fourth time, and Jake Bauers fourth for just the sixth time, and the tinkering paid off immensely as the All-Star trio combined for eight of the team’s 17 RBI.

Every single player in the Biscuits lineup recorded a hit, and all but one tallied an RBI as well in the slugfest at Riverwalk. The Biscuits also clobbered three home runs, including back-to-back jacks from Patrick Leonard and Mike Marjama in the eighth, and a three-run opposite field shot by Adames in the sixth.

With a comfortable cushion, Taylor Guerrieri (4-4) was free to throw strikes and the right-hander delivered a terrific performance hurling six innings and allowing just one earned run on five hits with one strikeout on his way to becoming the first Biscuits starting pitcher to reach four wins.

Newcomer Cade Gotta also made his Double-A debut for the Biscuits on Thursday night, starting in left field and collecting two singles, a walk, and a run scored in his first game at Riverwalk, as the Biscuits cruised to the 15-run victory.

The Biscuits will now head to Pensacola to open up a five-game series with the Blue Wahoos on Friday with All-Star Chris Kirsch (3-2) getting the ball in game one.
