Better Rain Chances
Today and tomorrow appear to have the highest coverage of scattered showers and storms thanks to the weak upper trough approaching Alabama from the west. Still, it won’t rain everywhere, but most communities stand a good chance of getting some rain at times. Best chance of showers and thunderstorms will come during the afternoon and evening hours, but we can’t rule out a late night or morning shower. The high both days should be in the lower 90s with a mix of sun and clouds away from the storms.
THURSDAY/FRIDAY: We will be dialing back the rain chances these two days, as the upper ridge begins to rebuild, and heat levels will rise again. Expect highs in the upper 90s with only widely scattered afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms and a pretty decent amount of sun both days.
WEEKEND HEAT RELIEF: I like where I see the global models trending for the weekend. It looks as though a trough will set up over the East and that will allow a drier, continental air mass to settle into the state this weekend. Temperatures will be a few degrees cooler, upper 80s to near 90, but the real difference will be noticed in those humidity levels. Lower humidity levels mean more comfortable conditions for the state. Also with the lower moisture levels, it appears we are in for mostly sunny weather Saturday and Sunday, with no afternoon showers or storms expected. Nights will be cooler and refreshing.
INTO NEXT WEEK: The upper-level ridge builds back in and it looks as though next week will be hot and humid. Each day will feature the threat of daily afternoon showers and storms. Afternoon highs should be in the mid 90s, and overnight lows will be in the 70s.
