Decent Rain Chances Today, Hot End to Work Week

Today will have a fairly high coverage of scattered showers and storms thanks to a weak upper trough. Still, it won’t rain everywhere, but most communities stand a good chance of getting some rain at times. Best chance of showers and thunderstorms will come during the afternoon and evening hours, but we can’t rule out a late night or morning shower. Highs today will be around the 90 degree mark.

HOT END TO WORK WEEK: We will be dialing back the rain chances Thursday and Friday. The upper ridge begins to rebuild, and heat levels will be on the rise, we are forecasting highs in the upper 90s, and heat index values will be well over 100°. Expect mostly sunny days with only widely scattered afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms, some of which could certainly be strong.

WEEKEND HEAT RELIEF: Wonderful weekend weather looks to arrive by Saturday. A trough sets up over the East and we are going to see a drier, cooler, continental air mass settle into the state. Temperatures will be cooler, as we are forecasting upper 80s to near 90. The real difference will be noticed in those humidity levels. Lower humidity levels mean more comfortable conditions for the state. Also with the lower moisture levels, it appears we are in for mostly sunny weather Saturday and Sunday, with no afternoon showers or storms expected. Nights will be cooler and refreshing.

NEXT WEEK: Enjoy the reprieve from the heat and humidity this weekend as it all looks to return next week and just in time for the first official day of summer, Monday. The summer solstice occurs at 5:34PM CDT, June 20, which will make Monday the longest day of the year as far as the amount of daylight hours. The rest of the week, the heat and humidity levels will rise as the upper ridge builds again. Highs mostly in the 90s, and beginning Wednesday we will bring back the risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms.
