Tuskegee reveals 2016 Volleyball schedule

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) —  Tuskegee University second-year head coach Melissa Robinson released the 2016 volleyball schedule Wednesday evening, featuring five home matches and two tournaments.

“I am excited about the upcoming season,” Robinson said. “It will be very competitive. We have the opportunity to play some great teams, and we can continue to build on our season a year ago. This schedule will help build a competitive program for not only this year, but the years to come.”

For the first time in three years, Tuskegee (18-13 last season) will open the season at home. They will host a tournament on campus Labor Day weekend, featuring eight teams and 14 matches in two days inside Chappie James Arena. The host will open play in the tournament against North Greenville September 2 at 8 am, before playing Limestone at 8 pm to close out the opening day of the tournament.

Tuskegee will also play a pair of matches on September 3 beginning at 2 pm against St. Andrews and against at 8 pm against Talladega to close out the opening weekend.

Following their home stand, they will hit the road for eight match dates which include the SIAC West Cluster #1 (at Kentucky State) September 9-10 and the SIAC Crossover (at Albany State) September 22-24. During that stretch, Tuskegee will also face Shorter (September 6), Lee (September 13) and Mississippi Valley State (September 27).

Tuskegee returns home October 6 in conference play, while hosting the SIAC West Cluster #2 during three days beginning that same night. Following the Cluster, Tuskegee hits the road to face Montevallo on October 11.

The team returns home October 17, the Monday of homecoming week on the Tuskegee campus, hosting Miles in “Black Out” night at Chappie James. After a quick trip to Atlanta to face Clark Atlanta October 29, the team returns home to face Albany State November 2 on Senior Day.

Tuskegee closes out the regular season with three consecutive road contests beginning with Spring Hill (November 4), Miles (November 8) and Alabama-Huntsville (November 12).
