Hot and Humid July Weather

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY: A hot and humid day continues as we are seeing a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures are in the mid and upper 90s for much of South/Central Alabama, factor in those dew points in the 70s, heat index values are at of above 100° in many locations. We are seeing scattered showers and storms across the Alabama landscape this afternoon; all summer storms pack very frequent lightning and we always urge folks to head indoors if you hear thunder. Most of the storms will last to about 8:00 p.m. or so and the shower and thunderstorm activity will be winding down during the evening hours. The big fireworks shows around the area, still should be able to go off.

REST OF THE WEEK: As folks head back to work, the best rain chances of the week will come tomorrow and Wednesday. These two days should have the highest coverage of scattered showers and thunderstorms with colder air aloft in place. Now it won’t rain everywhere, but the rain chances are anywhere from the 30% range with the higher odds coming during the afternoon and evening hours. Otherwise, expect a mix of sun and clouds with a high in the mid to upper 90s. Then for the second half of the week, warmer air aloft moves in and this means showers and storms will be fewer in number. We are going to see hotter afternoon temperatures as well and upper 90s to possibly low 100s are expected with a pretty decent amount of sunshine Thursday and Friday.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Little change in the weather as we roll into the weekend. There will be daily threat of showers and storms and it will be hot and humid. Look for afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s, and overnight lows in the mid 70s. Once again, the only heat relief will come from those daily afternoon showers and storms that will pop up across the Alabama landscape.

Have a safe and wonderful night!
