Hot, Humid, Daily Thunder

SHOWERS & STORMS: A fairly active day on the radar as we have been dealing with widespread and numerous showers and storms all day. Thankfully these are providing some heat relief as temperatures are being held in check with mid 80s, but it remains rather humid outside. The rain is definitely helping rainfall deficits too as many locations across Alabama are experiencing drought conditions. For the rest of today, we will continue to see widespread rain through the area, but the activity will be winding down during the evening hours. Severe weather is not expected, but some storms will pack a punch, with gusty winds, and they will be producing a lot of lightning. Also, precipitable water values are very high, and we could see some areas of isolated flash flooding under some of the more intense storms.

FOR WEDNESDAY: Showers and storms become more widely spaced and tomorrow will feature a sky with partly sunny conditions. With the lower rain chances, our highs will climb back in the mid 90s. Chance of any one spot getting wet tomorrow is about one in two.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: These two days warmer air aloft moves in and this means showers and storms will be fewer in number. We are going to see hotter afternoon temperatures as well and upper 90s are expected with a pretty decent amount of sunshine Thursday and Friday. We could easily see those heat index values in the 100-110° these days as well.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: As we roll into the weekend, it appears the chance of rain will be on the uptick. Both Saturday and Sunday will see the daily threat of showers and storms as cooler air aloft moves in over the state. That will be more favorable for upward motion and is why better rain chances are in the forecast for the weekend. Despite the increase in showers and storms, neither day will be washout, but do expect it to be hot and humid. Look for afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s, and overnight lows in the mid 70s.
