Higher Rain Chances
Today and tomorrow should be the days with the highest coverage of showers and thunderstorms across Alabama. Of course, this is summer, so it won’t rain everywhere, but any one spot stands a 50% chance of getting wet a time or two. Due to the clouds and showers, we will see our temperatures kept down some, with lower 90s expected across South/Central Alabama.
Widespread severe weather is not expected, but some of the storms could be strong over Alabama, and the SPC has a “marginal risk” of severe storms defined this afternoon for much of Alabama. The main concern with storms today will be damaging wind gusts. Also, storms will be producing a lot of lightning and very heavy rainfall.
LOWER RAIN CHANCES: Sunday, we will start to see our rain chances decrease, but there will still be the threat of scattered mainly afternoon and evening storms. Expect a good supply of sunshine Sunday with mid 90s by afternoon.
FOR NEXT WEEK: A heat ridge will build over the nation’s heartland, and although we are on the periphery of that, heat levels will rise next week, and showers and storms will become more isolated in nature. Highs will be well up in the 90s, and a few spots may be flirting with the century mark later in the week.
