Dog Days of Summer

Hot summer weather is the headline for our forecast in coming days. Through the end of the week, days will feature a mix of sun and clouds, and highs in the upper 90s to 100°. It is also humid out there and with dew points in the 70s, those heat index values are over 100° in many locations. The only heat relief we see this time of comes on a very small scale in the form of scattered, mainly afternoon and evening showers and storms, and these are a threat today. Some storms today could certainly pack a punch with gusty winds, frequent and dangerous lightning, and tropical downpours.

THE WEEKEND AND BEYOND: The ridge shifts a little to the west, heat levels drop slightly with highs in the mid to upper 90s with a little better coverage of scattered showers and storms during the afternoon and evening hours. This will likely continue into Monday and likely the remainder of next week as the summer pattern looks to continue. A persistence forecast remains the best solution with highs generally in the lower to mid-90s, and very humid conditions with heat relief coming from scattered passing afternoon showers or storms.
