MONTGOMERY, Ala. (ahsaa.com) – The South All-Stars swept past the North 25-17, 25-16, 25-18 to win the AHSAA North-South Volleyball All-Star match at Auburn-Montgomery University Gymnasium Thursday afternoon. The North holds a 13-6 edge in the series dating back to 1997.
The South, coached by Bayside Academy’s Ann Schilling and Murphy’s Nancy Shoquist, registered 38 kills to the North’s 26. A big reason was South MVP Lauren Chastang of Bayside Academy. Setter MaryRen Stevenson dished out 18 assists, served two aces and had seven digs. Ashlyn Byrd of Providence Christian also had 11 assists for the South.
North MVP Hannah Barrett of Huntsville had 12 assists and four digs. Caroline Davies and Mary Jordan Kilgore, both of Mountain Brook, had five kills each. Kilgore also had five digs and Megan Zuck of Hartselle had three kills and seven assists.
The North was coached by Ryan Roberson of Brooks and Ginny McMillan of Mountain Brook. The South victory gave the girls a split in all-star competition for the week with the North taking soccer and softball and the South winning volleyball and basketball.
