Friends and Colleagues Remember Journalism Pioneer Bob Gambacurta

Bob GambacurtaTributes are still coming in for a pioneer in Alabama journalism who passed away this week.

Bob Gambacurta was found dead in his Montgomery home this past Tuesday.  He was 71.  During his career, Gambacurta easily flowed between both the world of print writing and TV journalism.  He was a news anchor at different stations in Alabama in the 1980’s.

In his latter years he wrote several political columns for different media outlets in the state.  He even served as press secretary for former Governor Fob James.

For 5 years, he co-hosted “Good Morning Montgomery” with Joe Hagler which is now “Good Afternoon Montgomery” airing on the CW Montgomery.

Alabama News Network’s Tim Lennox worked with Gambacurta.  He says his death is hard to take but his impact on journalism is lasting.

“I think I’m just going to miss his insight into Alabama politics which you know is a great sports here in the state. He was very well connected, could find out what was happening when a lot of other reporters were spinning their heels.  He’s a good man.  He’s missed.”

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Southern Memorial Funeral Home in Montgomery, Alabama.
