Tuskegee volleyball duo earn preseason SIAC honors
ATLANTA (goldentigersports.com) The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced its preseason volleyball honors Tuesday morning, and a pair of Tuskegee student-athletes earned honors this year.
Senior Pamela Allen was named to the First Team on a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. The senior, who last year was named co-Player of the Year in the conference, played in 31 matches a year ago and led the team in scoring with 418.5 points. She also led the team in kills with 337, averaging 3.37 kills per set. Allen finished the year hitting .366 on 651 total attempts, placing her among the leaders in NCAA Division II. She also finished the year with 29 service aces, 62 digs and 62 blocks en route to winning SIAC weekly honors four times last year.
Sophomore, Zahria Radford was named to the Second Team, her first such honor as a member of the Tuskegee volleyball team. She led the team in digs with 367, averaging 3.67 digs per set and was named SIAC Defensive Player of the Week one time last season. She also finished with 44 service aces and 39 assists.
Kentucky State led all teams with five selections on the two teams, followed by Claflin (three). Spring Hill and Tuskegee each had a pair of selections.
Tuskegee was picked to finish third in the West Division with 55 points, finishing behind Spring Hill (72 pts) and Kentucky State (67 pts). They finished ahead of Miles (36 pts), Central State (29 pts), LeMoyne-Owen (27 points) and Lane (19 pts).
