Tuskegee Volleyball opens preseason camp
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) — Tuskegee University volleyball coach Melissa Robinson opened preseason camp Saturday afternoon to prepare for the 2016 season.
The team welcomed in 11 newcomers this season, along with six returning players to camp.
“It feels really good to be back in the gym,” Robinson said. “This is a time for us to get in shape and work hard. We have a lot of things to work on, but we are definitely excited to see how far we can go this year and about the girls.”
The core of last year’s team – Pamela Allen, Zahria Radford and Janae Graham return for another season. Allen, last season’s SIAC co-Player of the Year, and Radford each were selected preseason all-conference this season. Meanwhile, Graham led the country in service aces per set last season.
“I really want them to come with the mindset of working hard,” she said. “Right now we are preaching unity, we want to be on the same page and do things together. We definitely want to get used to each and work together to see how far we can go.”
Tuskegee returns to practice Sunday and will continue through camp until the beginning of school next week. They open the season at home, playing host to Spikefest beginning September 2.
