Low Level Median Coming to Commerce Street

road-work123r.gifThe City of Montgomery in early September will install a low level median on Commerce Street from Bibb to Montgomery Street to prohibit motorist from parking in the middle of the street.

Prioritizing public safety while enhancing the street’s curb appeal for local businesses, the low level median is like those found on Dexter Avenue and a portion of Commerce Street near The Alley. All businesses and tenants have approved the median.

New events and venues in Montgomery’s revitalized downtown entertainment and convention district have resulted in increased traffic. Even with this increase, ample parking facilities are available. The facilities consist of 2,500 spaces – including 1,810 spaces spanning seven decks – within a quarter mile of the water tower at The Alley.

Residents are not required to feed the meters on weekends. All city parking facilities – including on-street parking – are available to the public free of charge weekdays after 6 p.m. and all day on Saturdays and Sundays.
