Biscuits’ mascot Miss Gravy to retire to Wetumpka
MONTGOMERY, Ala.(biscuitsbaseball.com) – The Montgomery Biscuits will celebrate Miss Gravy, the Duchess of Pork’s Farewell on September 1st and 2nd. After much consideration, Miss Gravy has decided to retire as the Biscuits live mascot at the end of the 2016 season.
Fans might remember that Miss Gravy, or the Duchess as she is often referred, was introduced in 2014 as a companion for the then lonely Big Mo, the Biscuit Lovin’ Beast. In conjunction with the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries, the Biscuits selected a pig due to the important part livestock have to Alabama agriculture. Her name was chosen through a “Name the Pig Contest” that received over 4,100 entries.
Miss Gravy has been a staple for fans young and old alike at Riverwalk Stadium over the last three seasons. Whether posing for pictures with young princesses on Princess Night, a night dedicated to her, or enjoying her nightly treat of a cherry sno-cone, Miss Gravy embraced the minor league baseball spirit of family fun!
“When Miss Gravy approached me about retiring from her job as the Biscuits live mascot, I wasn’t surprised,” Biscuits Owner Sherrie Myers said. “She has embraced pig life! While she grazes on fruits and vegetables, she has had more than her fair share of biscuits. She loves to run loose in centerfield and often is counterproductive to our groundskeeper. We love her, but we realize a dugout view isn’t best for her.”
Miss Gravy will spend her retirement at a farm in Wetumpka, just outside of Montgomery, where she will enjoy acres of pastures for grazing, swimming pools to keep cool, and rolling around in the hay with her fellow pig friends.
Miss Gravy will not soon be forgotten as she plans to make a few special appearances during future seasons. The Biscuits will provide Miss Gravy with a lifetime pass to Riverwalk Stadium.
