Selma Police Department Back to Normal after “Blue Flu”

selma-police-strike-imageSelma’s police chief says the department is back to normal operations following a sick-out by officers upset over pay and working conditions.

Police Chief John Brock says that two officers are still out. But that’s down from about 10 at the height of the protest.

Brock says the department is functioning normally.

Officers began calling in sick earlier this month to show their displeasure with low wages. Amid discussions between officers and administrators, the City Council voted Aug. 18 to give public safety workers a pay raise beginning Oct. 1.

City workers in Selma last got a raise in 2007. The chief says officers now want to know what their new salaries will be.
