Tuskegee volleyball searches for first win on the road

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) —  The Tuskegee University volleyball team hits the road for the first time this season on Tuesday, facing Shorter College at 7 pm (est) in Rome (Ga.).

Tuskegee (0-4) is in search of their first victory of the season after dropping matches at the Spikefest Tournament this past weekend, while Shorter (4-0) comes in sweeping their first four matches of the season.

A trio of freshmen lead the Lady Golden Tigers offensively during the early portion of the season, as the three have combined for 82 of the 121 kills through four matches. Jessica Johnson (Stockbridge, Ga.) leads the way with 31 kills, while Shakayia Wilson (Goose Creek, S.C.) has 27 and Taliyana Bryant (North Little Rock, Ark.) has added 24.

Sophomores Janae Graham (Long Beach, Calif.) and Zahria Radford (Houston, Texas) lead in assists and digs through the first four matches of the season for Tuskegee, with 95 and 65 respectively. Graham, the nation’s leader in service aces last season, shares the team lead this season (four) with Wilson and Bryant.

Shorter is led by Elizabeth Dowd with 53 kills, while Tiffani Estep has recorded 37 and Madeline Munroe has 36.

It will be the only meeting of the year between Tuskegee, a member of the SIAC, and Shorter, a member of the Gulf South Conference. Live stats will be provided during the match.
