Silvers, Chunn lead Troy Past Idaho
MOSCOW, Idaho (troytrojans.com) – Brandon Silvers threw for a career-high 373 yards and three touchdowns, while Jordan Chunn rushed for 137 yards as Troy rolled past Idaho, 34-13, Saturday afternoon in Sun Belt Conference action in the Kibbie Dome.
Troy improves to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference play with the victory; it is the best overall start for the Trojans in their FBS history and the best Sun Belt start since opening the 2010 season 3-0.
The Trojans rolled off 31 straight points behind Silvers’ three touchdown passes, a pair of Ryan Kay field goals and Chunn’s 25th career rushing touchdown. Silvers completed 31-of-42 attempts in the game to go along with his 373 yards and three touchdowns; he threw a pair of interceptions, one on a Hail Mary attempt at the end of the first half.
Silvers found three different Trojans for scores as he hooked up with Tevaris McCormick, Emanuel Thompson and John Johnson for scoring plays. McCormick put the Trojans on the board with a 36-yard score in the first quarter; his first career touchdown at Troy.
Thompson extended the Troy lead to 14-6 with 20 seconds remaining in the first quarter on a 14-yard touchdown catch, and Chunn pushed the lead to 21-6 at the half with a 12-yard score. The Trojans have outscored opponents 116-50 in the first half this season and 52-6 in Sun Belt play.
Silvers didn’t waste any time putting the final dagger in Idaho (2-3, 0-1) as he found Johnson on the first play of the third quarter for a 60-yard touchdown. Johnson finished with career highs in catches (7) and receiving yards (127), while Thompson added seven catches for 73 yards and Deondre Douglas has seven catches for 65 yards.
Troy dominated the stat sheet as the Trojans outgained the Vandals 530-255 in the game. Blace Brown intercepted a pair of passes for a Troy defense that entered the game leading the country with 10 picks on the season; the Trojans now have 12 interceptions through five games which is the most for a season by a Troy team since 2010.
Rashad Dillard led an aggressive Trojan defense as he recorded two of Troy’s four sacks in the game with Baron Poole and Kamryn Melton each having one. Brown added a team-high six tackles to go with his two interceptions; Brown now has four interceptions and 10 tackles in the last two games.

Brandon Silvers set career highs for completions (31) and passing yards (373) in addition to throwing three touchdown passes. Silvers has now thrown multiple touchdown passes in all five games this season and seven straight games dating back to last year.
Troy forced Idaho to turn the ball over on downs near midfield late in the first quarter with the Trojans leading 7-6. Seven plays later Brandon Silvers found Emanuel Thompson for a 14-yard touchdown pass to put Troy up 14-6.
With Kamryn Melton picking up a sack and Junior Gnonkonde a tackle for loss, Troy now has 20 different players with a tackle for loss on the season.
Troy will enjoy its first bye week of the season next week before returning to Sun Belt Conference play on Oct. 15 when it hosts Georgia State on Homecoming.
