Lady Golden Tiger volleyballers face Montevallo Tuesday

TUSKEGEE, Ala. ( — The Tuskegee University volleyball team will play one of its final two non-conference matches of the year this Tuesday, hitting the road to face the University of Montevallo.

Tuskegee (9-13, 9-6 SIAC) returns to the court after winning four of five matches this weekend at the SIAC West Cluster, and will be looking for the sixth road win of the season.

Freshman Jessica Johnson leads a Tuskegee attack that has combined for 792 kills this season, with 194 of her own – one of four players with 100-plus kills this season. The freshman recorded 57 of those kills in the five matches this weekend at the SIAC West Cluster, including finishing in double figures four times. The Stockbridge (Ga.) native has recorded double digit kills 11 times, including a string of four consecutive matches from September 24 until October 6.

She is joined in triple digit kills by fellow freshman Taliyana Bryant with 177 kills, including double-digit kills seven times. Freshman Shakayia Wilson (150) and Donovan Wingfield (129) have each gone over 100 kills this season through 22 matches.

Sophomore Janae Graham has assisted on 663 of the 792 Lady Golden Tigers’ kills this season, in her first season as the primary setter. Graham is averaging 8.50 assists per set, and has also contributed 22 service aces – the third highest total on the team behind Zahria Radford (24) and Wilson (23). She has also added 136 digs to her resume this season, averaging 1.74 digs per set.

Graham leads the SIAC in total assists and assists per set this season, while ranking 31st in the nation.

Defensively, Radford continues to lead the Lady Golden Tigers. The preseason All-SIAC selection has recorded 359 digs this season, more than double any of her teammates, and is averaging 4.60 digs per set.

The sophomore leads the conference in total digs and digs per set, while Johnson leads the SIAC in kills just ahead of her teammate Bryant.

Meanwhile, Montevallo (9-10, 3-7 GSC) looks to end a two-match losing streak against Tuskegee on Tuesday. The Falcons are led by Kristy Bohan offensively with 316 kills, while teammate Hannah Christie has 640 assists. Defensively, Grace Harris leads the team with 299 digs, while Bohan has 81 blocks on the year.

The match begins at 6 pm inside Trustmark Arena, in Montevallo.
