Tide trio earns SEC Player of the Week honors
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (rolltide.com) – Alabama’s Minkah Fitzpatrick, JK Scott and Jalen Hurts were all chosen as Southeastern Conference Players of the Week, the league office announced on Monday morning. Fitzpatrick was chosen on defense, Scott on special teams and Hurts as co-freshman player of the week for their performances in the Crimson Tide’s victory at Arkansas this past weekend.
Fitzpatrick had a record-setting performance in Fayetteville last Saturday. The sophomore defensive back picked off three passes to tie the Alabama single-game record, while adding five tackles and breaking up a pair of passes. One of his three interceptions was returned for a touchdown, with the pick going for a 100-yard return to register as the longest interception return in program history. The pick-six was the third of his career to tie him for the Alabama all-time mark for career interception returns for touchdowns.
Scott punted four times for 206 yards to average a season-high 51.5 yards per punt. He dropped two of the four boots inside the Razorbacks’ 20-yard line and netted 41.5 yards per punt. By night’s end, Scott collected a season-long 63-yard punt as part of his two kicks of 50-plus yards.
The Tide’s true freshman quarterback shined once again, as Hurts accounted for 273 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in the 49-30 victory over the Razorbacks. Hurts threw for 253 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 76.5 percent of his throws on 13-of-17 passing. He finished with a career-best 228.54 passer efficiency rating and averaged 14.9 yards per reception while avoiding the Arkansas pass rush all night. The Channelview, Texas, native also rushed eight times for 20 yards and two scores to bring his season total to five rushing touchdowns and his overall total to 14 (nine passing).
