Lady Trojan netters complete ITA Championships’ Opening Day 

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (troytrojans.com) – Three members of the Troy women’s tennis team wrapped up day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southern Regional Championship hosted by the University of Alabama.

The day started with a tie break win in doubles as Sanae Ohta and Efriliya Herlina defeated a duo from Samford 8-7 (10). Ohta and Herlina will continue doubles play as they face Petra Horakova and Stefana Andrei from Louisiana Monroe at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

In the singles draw, Herlina fell to Sarah Jurakova of McNeese State 6-3, 6-2, while Nancy Karaky fought a hard three-set match that finished in favor of Ellie Gerlach of Samford 5-7, 6-1, 6-4. Rounding out singles play for the opening day, Ohta fell to Caroline Drescher of Southern Miss 6-4, 6-2.

All three Trojans will continue play on Saturday as they compete in back draw matches. Doubles will be featured in the morning while singles matches will resume in the afternoon.
