Auburn advances in ITA Southern Regionals
AUBURN, Ala. (auburntigers.com) – Auburn advanced two men into the singles Round of 16 and a doubles team to the quarterfinals in Saturday action in the ITA Southern Regionals at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Senior Conner Huertas del Pino defeated LSU’s Gabor Csonka by a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 score. Huertas del Pino fell in the Round of 16 to Gustav Hansson of Ole Miss, 6-3, 7-5.
Freshman Carles Sarrio advanced to the Round of 16 with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Nicolas Braun (Mississippi State). Sarrio was defeated 6-4, 6-3 in the Round of 16 by Alabama’s Mazen Osama.
Sophomore Brandon Laubser also advanced with a 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 come-from-behind win over Troy’s Mustapha Belcora. Laubser’s next opponent is Filip Kraljevic of Ole Miss.
In the Round of 32, sophomore Olle Thestrup lost to Sebastian Rey of Tulane 4-6, 6-0, 6-0, and sophomore Brandon Laubser fell to Filip Kraljevic of Ole Miss by a 6-4, 6-2 score.
In doubles, Mazen Osama and Matthew Rossouw of Alabama will face Trevor Foshey and Niclaus Braun of Mississippi State in one semifinal match Sunday. The other semifinal matches Ole Miss’ Tim Sandkaulen and Gustav Hansson against their teammates Fabian Fallert and Grey Hamilton.
Auburn’s doubles entry of Conner Huertas del Pino and Edward Nguyen defeated Pablo Moreno and Andy Lau of Troy 8-7 before falling to Alabama’s Osama Mazen and Matthew Rossouw 8-4 in the quarterfinals.

The singles and doubles champions advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., in November.
