Trojans’ Ryan Kay takes Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week
TROY, Ala. (troytrojans.com) – Troy senior kicker Ryan Kay was named Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season following his strong performance on Saturday as the Trojans defeated Georgia State 31-21.
Kay, a graduate student from Jonesboro, Ga., was a perfect three-for-three on field goals against the Panthers and accounted for Troy’s first nine points of the game. He is 11-13 on the season and has hit eight straight attempts. Kay has now hit 22 of 29 field goals in his career, which ranks ninth in the Troy all-time record books. Kay is also fifth in Troy history with a field goal percentage of 75.8 percent.
The senior hit a pair of point after attempts, which makes him a perfect 54-54 since 2014 and ranks him at the top of the list for PAT percentage in the Troy record books. Kay ranks 10th in Troy history in PAT’s made.
Kay also handles the punting duties for the Trojans. He booted a 54-yard punt and placed four punts inside the 20-yard line as the Trojans beat the Panthers to go 5-1 on the season.
The senior first received Player of the Week honors this season after helping the Trojans to a 37-31 win over Southern Miss.
The Trojans are back in action this week as they travel to South Alabama for a Thursday night kickoff at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
