No. 2 Auburn defeats Alabama 10-2 in exhibition
AUBURN, Ala. (auburntigers.com) – The No. 2 Auburn equestrian team welcomed Alabama to the Plains for a hunt seat-only exhibition meet Friday afternoon and topped the Crimson Tide, 10-2, at the Auburn University Horse Center.
“We’re really excited about the way the Alabama team is coming along because it’s so fun to have an in-state rival and it’s really great for this sport,” head coach Greg Williams said. “I love how our team rode today and I liked the energy the put into their rides. They came out and went for it and I really love the direction we’re going in right now.”
The Tigers opened with a 4-2 win over Alabama in Equitation Over Fences. Sophomore Hayley Iannotti kicked things off with a 79-72 victory over Madelyn Malone, while freshman Summer Hill picked up her first career win as she defeated Hannah Wickham, 77-69. Senior Ashley Foster scored 78 points in her win to move to a perfect 5-0 on the season in the event. Sophomore Ashton Alexander closed out Fences with an 80-68 victory over Lauren Neibauer and captured Most Outstanding Performer honors.
Auburn swept Equitation on the Flat, finishing a perfect 6-0. Foster and Alexander each earned their second wins of the day, scoring 89 points apiece in their wins. Senior Tory Hoft topped her opponent with an 87-81 victory, while junior Caitlin Creel scored a season-high 90 points in her win. Iannotti’s second win of the meet came in an 84-82 victory over Clare Ols and Boyle picked up MOP honors and a W with 91 points.
Auburn takes a couple weeks off before hitting the road for a big Southeastern Conference meet. The Tigers will travel to No. 3 Georgia, Nov. 11., for a 12 p.m. CT faceoff.
