Auburn’s Cooper invited to 2017 Team USA Selection Camp

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (auburntigers.com) – Senior third baseman Kasey Cooper has made the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA Softball’s initial list of invitees for the 2017 USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Camp. The five-day camp will take place Jan. 1-5, 2017 at Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Fla.

Cooper has the chance to return to the roster as she was a member of the 2016 team that won the World Championship for the first time in six years and took silver at the World Cup of Softball.

The first representative to don the nation’s uniform in program history, Cooper was the espnW Player of the Year, SEC Player of the Year and SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2016.

The three-time All-American from Dothan, Ala. is one of only 43 to receive the prestigious invitation to take part in the annual camp.

During the selection process, athletes will participate in position drills as well as simulated games and be evaluated by the USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC).  Athletes who make the 2017 USA Softball WNT roster will be competing at a Pan American Games/World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Championship Qualifier in Florida, where the U.S. will look to qualify for the 2018 WBSC Women’s World Championship to be held in Chiba, Japan and the 2019 Pan American Games to be held in Lima, Peru.
