Robert E. Lee forfeits 6 2016 football wins
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (ahsaa.com) – Robert E. Lee High School of Montgomery has been fined, placed on probation for one year and ordered to forfeit six varsity football wins for violating the AHSAA eligibility rules. The school self-reported the violation.
Lee played an ineligible student in violation of the AHSAA Suspensions Rule found on page 36 of the 2016-17 AHSAA Handbook, which states a transfer student must in in good standing with the student’s previous school(s). The school must forfeit all contests its team won in which the student participated. Forfeits include Class 7A, Region 2 wins over Smiths Station, Prattville and Jeff Davis and non-region wins over Sidney Lanier, Park Crossing and Carver-Montgomery high schools. Consequently, Jeff Davis is now the fourth seed and will advance to the first round of the Class 7A state football playoffs next week.
The probationary period is a warning that other violations of this nature could bring further sanctions against the school.
