Troy’s Jordan Chunn named Sun Belt Player of the Week
TROY, Ala. (troytrojans.com) – Troy University running back Jordan Chunn has been named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. This is the fourth time this season a Troy player has received Player of the Week recognition.
Chunn played a crucial role in Troy’s Thursday night 28-21 win against South Alabama to help the Trojans (6-1, 4-0) become the first Sun Belt team to be bowl eligible. The running back scored two big touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including the game winning touchdown with just 80 seconds remaining.
The junior from Gurley Ala., rushed for 143 yards on just 23 carries. This was Chunn’s fourth 100-yard rushing game this season. He also caught five passes for 34 yards, finishing the game with 177 all-purpose yards.
The Trojans needed a come-from-behind effort in the fourth quarter of the game to defeat the Jags, and Chunn stepped up to the challenge. Down 21-13, “MegaChunn” got two big carries of 24 and 23 yards to spark some energy for the Trojans before capping the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. A two-point conversion tied the game.
A big offensive effort late in the game put the ball on the 1-yard line for the Trojans. Chunn got the carry and drove the ball into the end zone giving Troy a 28-21 lead with 1:20 remaining in the game. The defense handled the rest as Troy was able to pick up their sixth win of the season.
Chunn leads the Sun Belt with seven rushing touchdowns on the year and with a 116.6 per game average. On a national level, Chunn ranks 14th in total rushing yards with 816 yards on 156 carries.
After a bye week, the Trojans are back in action as they take on UMass on Nov. 5, at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
