Tuskegee volleyball gets ready to resume service
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) — After taking 12 days off following Homecoming Week and a conference victory last week, the Tuskegee University volleyball team returns to action on Saturday on the road against Clark Atlanta University.
The match begins at 12 noon (est) on the campus of Clark Atlanta.
Tuskegee (10-14, 10-6 SIAC) looks to improve on their conference standing entering the week with just four conference matches remaining on the regular season schedule. The Lady Golden Tigers currently sit third overall in the SIAC West Division, but are second when it comes to the seeding for the tournament due to Spring Hill not being eligible for championship play.
The Lady Golden Tigers have won three of their last four matches, with their last loss coming against Montevallo on October 11. Meanwhile, they have won five of their last six conference matches, with their last loss coming to Spring Hill in the SIAC West Cluster on October 6.
Tuskegee and Clark Atlanta have met one time this season, with Clark Atlanta claiming a 3-1 victory at the SIAC Crossover back on September 23.
Jessica Johnson, one of three freshmen lead Tuskegee this season, is one of the leading offensive players in the conference this season with 204 kills. She is followed closely by Taliyana Bryant (188) and Shakayia Wilson (159). Sophomore Donovan Wingfield has added 141 on the year for the Lady Golden Tigers.
Reigning SIAC Setter of the Week Janae Graham, fresh off a double-double against Miles, leads the Lady Golden Tigers with 709 assists. She is averaging 8.44 assists per set, and has recorded all but 80 assists this season.
Meanwhile, Zahria Radford – a preseason All-SIAC selection and reigning SIAC Defensive Player of the Week – leads Tuskegee with 397 digs, double of any other Lady Golden Tiger this season.
